Is There a Healthy Nonstick Cookware?

Using the terms healthy and nonstick together may seem like a contradiction. Times are changing, and DuPont may not be involved. It has long been considered that the healthier cookware choices are glass, cast iron, and stainless steel. Enameled cast iron is becoming increasingly popular, and with a non-porous enameled surface, it is nearly nonstick. Today there are two other cookware brands I'd like to introduce you to that offer healthy alternatives to nonstick performance.

Scanpan Cookware is a company from Denmark that makes a carbon steel core coated with a ceramic/titanium surface. This ceramic/titanium surface is nearly nonstick. The cookware is relatively light, and it is priced reasonably well. Check out Scanpan Cookware at Amazon.

Chantal cookware, from Germany, offers an enamel on carbon steel cookware line. It is like enameled cast iron, but without the heavy weight. Chantal makes impressive cookware in several colors. Check out Chantal cookware at Amazon.

Here are a couple alternatives for those looking to use healthy cookware and something different from the usual cast iron, glass, or stainless steel. There will be much more info on these brands coming in the near future.

A "Handle" on Cookware!

What is meant by "Clad?"

Clad is the bonding of one material on to the surface of another material. For example, stainless steel is not a great conductor of heat. By itself it produces uneven heating properties. Higher quality stainless steel cookware will clad aluminum and/or copper in between layers of stainless steel. It produces far superior cookware, but at a higher cost.
