The Staub La Cocotte, or French oven, available in a round or oval shape, is the signature cast iron product of Staub. The French Oven, La Cocotte, is typically used for one-pot cooking like soups, stews, casseroles, and roasts. The round and oval designs includes self-basting spikes for continuous, natural basting. The self basting spikes are a Staub cast iron innovation that has been praised as making the food taste better. The oval design has many of the same advantages of the round one-pot cooking but the shape is ideal for cooking fish, and braising or browning meats. When one is done cooking, La Cocotte goes straight to your table for a beautiful presentation. Staub is well known for its colors; each shape comes in graphite gray, black, yellow, grenadine, basil, or royal blue. The round oven comes in the most sizes; seven are available ranging from a 1/4 quart to an 8 quart size.  The oval oven comes in four sizes starting at a 1/4 quart size and going up to a 12 3/4 quart.

Staub La Cocotte has stainless steel oven proof knobs. The black matte enamel interior is a durable surface that does not require seasoning and will attract oils as you cook retaining more and more flavor with every meal. The special smooth ceramic bottoms are appropriate for any cooking surface.

This product is dishwasher safe but hand washing is recommended. It comes with a lifetime limited warranty.

Today the Staub family business considers itself the undisputed leader in culinary cast iron cookware in France. The operation began modestly enough when Auguste Waldner bought a cookware store in Alsace in 1892. When grandson Francis Staub switched from an acting career to taking over the family business, and purchased a nearby cast iron plant in 1974, the current product lines were born.

Even now, each cast iron piece is supervised by Francis Staub, and created by a process that takes a full day. A unique sand mold is created for every single, individual patented piece of cast iron cookware that is then outfitted with a ceramic bottom, and enameled with a black matte chip resistant coating. Numerous celebrated French chefs choose to use Staub ’s product lines.
